Italian Design
The Solar X has been designed by Ignazio Bernardi, with the technical consultancy from the greatest Italian helmet developer.
The result is a helmet with a very modern look.
The 2 pilots pilots Piccard and Borschberg of the Solar Impulse 2 have chosen this helmet because it is light, solid, reliable and it has the certification EN 966.
We are very proud to have contributed to this incredible mission.
So we called the helmet “SOLAR X” in honor of this unique adventure.
Shell made of strong polycarbonate
The 3 mm thickness polycarbonate shell has the advantage to be very light but still very strong.

Visor
The visor is an option.
It is made of polycarbonate with anti-scratch and anti-fog treatment.
2 types are available:
- Short, transparent and tinted brown
- Long, transparent, tinted brown and mirror
Sizes
- S (cm 53 – 54 – 55- 56)
- M (cm 57 – 58 – 59)
- L (cm 60 – 61)
The size of a helmet is always described by the inner circumference of the internal padding.
The size number therefore corresponds to the head circumference in centimetres.
Ear defenders or electronic headsets
The Solar X helmet is certified only with attached ear defenders or electronic headsets.
We use Star headsets or the finest Peltor-brand headsets, and we mount them perfectly onto the helmet.
We can apply the electronic apparatus for any type of radio equipment, including the professional headsets used by the Swiss aerial rescue service with our Rega helmet. For further information, go to our headsets page.
Once the headsets are fixed with our special screws onto the helmet and the polystirene is perfectly positioned in to the shell, it’s nearly impossible to take it out again. It becomes also difficult to change the headset.
For this reason we recommend to decide at order time the appropriate headset.
If customers or dealers already have their own headset and they wish to use them with a new helmet, we suggest to send us the headset so that we can fit it perfectly to the helmet.

For safety reasons, we do not sell the helmet to pilots who wish to use a conventional arching headset worn under the helmet.
